Background

Nick Finzer is a 2012 graduate of the Juilliard Jazz Masters program in New York City and earned a Bachelors of Jazz and Contemporary Media from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY.

Nick is currently the Assistant Professor of Jazz Trombone at the University of North Texas (the first to hold this position!). Prior to teaching at UNT, Nick has served as Visiting Assistant Professor of Jazz Trombone at Florida State University from 2014 - 2016, and also taught as sabbatical replacement at Hunter College in NYC.

He is the author of GET AHEAD! A Practical Guide for the Developing Jazz Trombonist and tours the country visiting K-12 schools, Universities, and music stores, sharing his passion for the music!

Nick is currently available for clinics, masterclasses, in person lessons, and guest artist appearances. Nick also offers lessons via Zoom/Facetime.

• "Lunch & Listen" Sessions to uncover listening to music, in new ways.

• Daily topic sessions that include things like:

  • Trombone Fundamentals

  • Music Theory

  • Tune Learning

  • Jazz Vocabulary Development

  • Transcription Strategies

  • Scales/Modes

  • Tune Trading Sessions

• Daily Q&A sessions with Nick

• Virtual Hangouts to chat with other attendees, TA's and Nick

• Three evening events, throughout the week (more details soon)!

There is limited availability - we can only accommodate a limited amount of participants in Session 2 this summer!

This camp is intended for advanced high school, college, graduate, and postgraduate students, who are serious about jazz trombone and want to take advantage of this time to take their playing to the next level!
