This Duke Pearson tune, "Chant", appears on several albums by artists like Trumpeter Donald Byrd and baritone saxophonist Pepper Adams. Chris brought this tune to my attention before our March 2016 duo tour, thinking that it would make a nice addition to the program's we presented. The tune features some cool interplay between the voices and a stylistic contrast to some of the others appearing on this record!
We recorded this as part of our August 2016 digital release - "Live in Memphis" on Outside in Music (www.outsideinmusic.com) - from a live in studio concert at Young Avenue Sound in Memphis, Tennessee.
