This week’s composition is a duet with one of my favorite bassists in New York - Or Bareket. Or is an amazing musician and plays with a who’s who of todays generation of jazz musicians (Aaron Goldberg, Ari Hoenig, just to name a few). I was so glad to be able to feature him on this first series of duets! You should see what Or is all about by going and checking out his (super awesome) website: www.orbareket.com
This arrangement originally stemmed from one that I did while I was at Eastman for an Octet with five horns. It sat around for awhile until I dusted it off as a two horn arrangement that I did with Lucas Pino for a few gigs we did together out in Arizona a couple of years ago. I always liked this arrangement and by taking some additional influence from Chick Corea, I wanted to write a version of “You and the Night and the Music” to feature Or’s virtuosic abilities. We aimed to keep it compact, for quick enjoyment!
Thanks for watching!
P.S. if you’re interested in how this arrangement was influenced by Chick Corea, check out his tune “Armando’s Rhumba” with Jean-Luc Ponty and John Pattituci!
